Not Ashamed: For the Good of All of Us

I am not ashamed to say that I believe in a God who favors the marginalized.

I am not ashamed to say that I believe in a God who wills that every hungry mouth be fed.

I am not ashamed to say that I believe in a God whose power is perfected, not in our strengths, but in our weaknesses.

I am not ashamed to say that I believe God is concerned more about our willingness to care for the broken, the wounded, and the downtrodden than any of our human achievements.

I am not ashamed to say that I believe in a God that calls us to stand against the powers and principalities, i.e. the domination system, the structured oppression, the empires of the world, the religious establishments, the economic order, the provocateurs and those who benefit from war and violence.

I am not ashamed to say I believe in a God who created the universe in love and calls us to live in peace and justice.

I am not ashamed to say I believe in a God that cares more about the state of our relationships with each other than our beliefs about heaven and hell; that the salvation God desires for us requires a commitment to mercy and restoration over judgement and retribution.

I am not ashamed to say I believe in an enemy-loving, patient, and compassionate God.

No, I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is the promise of the salvation of all of us, first for those who stake their lives on the claims it makes on us, and then for the common good of all of us! (Romans 1:16)
