To Be a Beginning
This piece was created as a small act of blessing.
During my time with the Living Water Association, my daughter Joey and I were invited to experiment with visual liturgy—forms of prayer that could be shared beyond a sanctuary and received wherever people found themselves. To Be a Beginning grew out of that invitation.
The words are adapted from Ted Loder’s poem “Help Me Believe in Beginnings,” read by Joey. The images and music were chosen to hold space rather than direct it—to offer a quiet prayer for those standing at thresholds, grieving what has ended, or hoping for what has not yet taken shape.
This wasn’t made for performance or production value. It was made as an offering.
Our hope was simple: that someone, somewhere, might receive it as a moment of pause, permission, or peace. If it does that for you, then it has done its work.
