“Misa Campesina”

You are the God of the poor,
the human and simple God,
the God who sweats in the street,
the God with the weather-beaten face.
That's why I can talk to you the way I talk to my people,
Because you are God the worker
and Christ is a worker, too.

From Songs from the Batahola Cultural Center in Nicaragua, quoted in Walter Wink, The Human Being (Minneapolis, Fortress Press, 2002), p. 273.
