Table of Life

May it be said of us that we were a people of love;
That where there was hunger, we offered nourishment,
not from what remained after we had been fed,
but from the place deep within yearning for a world without hunger.
May it be said of us that where there was thirst, we offered water,
because we found deep within us that wellspring of life that never runs dry.
May it be said of us that where there was falsehood, we spoke truth;
Where there was suffering, we offered comfort,
Where there was death, we offered our lives,
because we were a people set free from the power of fear and death,
afraid only to be counted among those who did not know the truth,
and the comfort,
and the beauty of life.
May it be said of us that ours was a table of justice and joy,
of rest and restoration, of repentance and reconciliation,
of happiness and hope,
of grace and goodness,
of promise and peace,
of love and laughter.
May it be said of us that ours was the table of life.
—Amen
